First Listen: Hot 100.5 Norfolk

Written Apr. 28, 2009 by Sean Ross in Content + Terrestrial Radio with 5 Comments

As CHR's building boom continues, I realize I haven't always held to my goal of same-day posting on new stations. I'm a day behind in acknowledging the new WVHT (Hot 100.5) Norfolk, the former rock outlet Max 100.5. But I figure if I don't get this written quickly, there'll be another new CHR to write before I get to it!

When I heard them late afternoon yesterday, the Alan Burns-consulted Hot 100.5 seemed to be in that same "chythmic" bag as KLSX (Amp 97.1) Los Angeles and WXRK (Now 92.3) New York, although looking at the logs over a longer period of time, I did see The Fray and a few of the other songs that separate Amp and Now from their already rhythmic-leaning incumbent rivals. Meanwhile, the homepage from the very amusing Kung Pao 100.5 launch stunt is still available here.

Here's what I heard at 3:50 yesterday:

Black Eyed Peas, "Boom Boom Pow"
Nelly Furtado, "Promiscuous"
Flo Rida, "Sugar"
Rihanna, "Disturbia"
T.I. & Justin Timberlake, "Dead and Gone" (the hour's No. 1 song)
Katy Perry, "I Kissed A Girl"
Pitbull, "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)"
Britney Spears, "Circus"
Lady Gaga, "Poker Face"
Fergie, "Glamorous"
Kanye West, "Heartless"

We want MaxFM back! This new line-up of music is terrible! I mean how many times can you play "Poker Face" in half hour period! WTH! Like we needed another one of these stations in this area. My husband and I are both in our very early thirties and always enjoyed the mixture of classic, middle and new rock and now we have no where to go! I can't believe they have changed the station and it's absolutely ridiculous!

I really HATE this format change, like we really need another "pop/urban music" station around here like we need another pothole in the road. I now have to switch between 96X and FM99 to 106.9 The Fox to try to get what I used to get on one radio station. I've completely deleted 100.5 off of my radio dial and so much for the promise they made to the troops of "they will still be rocking when they come back" from overseas. One shouldn't make promises they couldn't keep. I know it must be about the "money" but what a stupid choice! I guess I'll be buying a satellite radio next to listen to what I want know.

I HATE what they did. WTH is this? Why another urban music station none of the music sounds appealing to me, not all young adults are into urban music, the way the format of the songs are like a bunch of gibberish words and you can barely understand what they were saying. I want hard rock back NOW!! Just what were they thinking with this format?!?!? It brings my blood to a boil hearing hard rock being replaced by urban music. If one more station turns to urban music, I will give up on radio.
