It's an ongoing topic of discussion among radio junkies, but the "name your all-time jock lineup" topic makes it to David Hinckley's column in the New York Daily News today. Apparently, even civilians have some thoughts on the topic although a few industry ringers (Anita Bonita and Jerry Lembo) weigh in as well. As you might expect, there are a lot of votes for the legendary Top 40 WABC and AOR WNEW-FM lineups. But there's also a plug for the original WHN Country airstaff as well. Read it here. And look for something else of interest to New York radio fans tomorrow.

I noticed many of the WABC "All Americans," Charlie Greer ("Swing Charlie Swing") among them, listed as fan favorites in David Hinckley's Daily News column. I met Charlie in 1982 when he was doing PM Drive back in Akron, Ohio. At that time, I was the PD at WZZP in Cleveland, and we were shooting a spot next door at WAKR-TV. I told Charlie that he had been a role model for the next generation of jocks, especially in way he delivered live copy for the show's primary sponsor, "Dennison, a men's clothier." He said, "I'll let you in on a little secret. Dennison was a front for a brothel run by the mob." I guess it's great to know that Tony Soprano was spending his ad dollars on radio.
